Verbo auxiliar have got y have; El verbo have aparece mucho en inglés. Se usa como verbo auxiliar  en los tiempos perfectos . También se usa como verbo modal de obligación (have to) . En esta lección aprenderemos más sobre los diferentes usos de have got y have.

¿Cómo se usa have got y have?

Cuando have got y have significa lo que alguien ‘posee’, se puede usar cualquier forma en presente y tienen el mismo significado.

I’ve got / have a new car.

She has got / has a new baby.

John hasn’t got / doesn’t have a job, yet.

We haven’t got / don’t have much time left before the grand opening.

Se usa el presente de have got y has cuando hablamos de posesiones, enfermedades, relaciones. No se usa en los tiempos continuos.

En los tiempos pasados, se usa had en oraciones afirmativas y did/didn’t have en oraciones negativas e interrogativas.

Kevin had a huge house and fast car but he lost everything.

We didn’t have enough time to study for the State exams.

Didn’t they have a phone to call us?

Did the children have the energy to play yesterday?

Para la forma del verbo modal have to, se usa have got to en oraciones afirmativas solo en presente.

I have to go now. / I’ve got to go.

Jenny has to make a presentation. / Jenny has got to make a presentation.

¿Cuáles son algunas expresiones comunes con have?

En las expresiones con have, no se usa have got. Se pueden usar las formas continuas de have.
