Inputs se refiere a los materiales, mano de obra, conocimiento y las ideas que intervienen en la producción de algo y que afectan al coste de la producción y a las ganancias después de las ventas.

Materials and parts are just some of the components of a product. Labor, which includes the workers and the managers add up to the components. Capital is important because this means money. Money is needed to keep the business running.
Proveedores y externalización (Suppliers and outsourcing)
Muchas empresas manufactureras están haciendo más subcontratación (subcontracting), dónde proveedores externos les proporcionan componentes y servicios. Esto se conoce como externalización (outsourcing), que significa utilizar proveedores externos para bienes y servicios. Es más rentable y ventajoso que producir en la empresa (in-house), donde los suministros son propios, porque la empresa puede concentrarse en un área particular de su producción.
Sistema Justo a tiempo (Just-in-time system)
Un sistema de producción justo a tiempo (just-in-time) evita el desperdicio al producir solo la cantidad de bienes necesarios en un momento específico y no pagar los bienes que se producen en exceso.
